I had two books lined up and couldn't decide which one.
The first was a book called Buddha Da but it is set in Glasgow and is written in glasgow slang. A lot of my non glaswegian friends said they got used to they way it was written after a while, but they all live in Scotland. So I didn't want to put you all off.

So my choice of this months book is.......

The Reader
by Bernhard Schlink

One of my friends gave it to me for Christmas and I enjoyed it very much. Don't want to give too much away, so I will see you all at the end of the month.

B x

Right, went on a special mission to buy this book yesterday, started reading it in bed last night when DH walks in and says "oh, schlink" so I explain that it was the forum book and I'd just got it. He replies "is that my copy" (me) "you didn't buy that did you? I've got it!" produces said book! It's only on the book list of a course he teaches

So we have 2 identical copies  (anyone wont one?)

No it's never too late, it's not a big book either. So get reading, the more the merrier.

Read it and enjoyed it, a quick read. I got confused about the era, for some reason I thought it was based in the inter war years, so took awhile to work out what was going on! It's an interesting concept, the sins of your parents/country.I did feel the book was lacking depth a bit and given it's short story quality it had room for more information/detail. It was hard to empathise with any of the characters and you had the feeling of detachment which may have been the intention, gave you the impression of being a juror I suppose.
It was interesting, how far do you follow orders, especially if you have been abandoned by your superiors??
A book to ponder on really, it doesn't grab you immeadiatly emotionally.
Hmm not sure that I'm making sense, doesn't sound like I enjoyed it, but I did, I'm glad I read it, just leaves you feeling that you wanted more.
